Having trouble opening a large AutoCAD file?
Having trouble opening a large AutoCAD file? If you’re having trouble opening a very large AutoCAD file, try using Partial Open. It will let you load up geometry from individual views and individual layers. If you really need to see all of the geometry in the drawing, once you’ve got it open using Partial Open, save and close it. Re-open the drawing and choose “Fully Open” from the dialog box you’re presented with. This can sometimes help large drawings open faster.

run autocad, click open, at the lower right corner of the "select file" window you can find the button "open", beside this open button there is a black triangle, click it. a pull down menu comes up, here you select what you prefer.

is there any difference between direct and partial open?

Find a drawing, and open it. click that black triangle, you see some options, don't you?
you may open the file for different purposes. "partial open" means you don't necessarily load the full drawing elements. just open some portions that you need by options in the "partial open" window.
