Dear Mr. Jensen,
Jerry Currie mentioned your name to me the other day and strongly suggested I contact you. Jerry and I attended university together and still see each other frequently.
From what Jerry tells me, you are very active as an officer in the Canadian Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning and know a number of sales executives in the industry. As a result, he felt you might be willing to lend me a hand.
Carrier Corporation, my current employer, has recently been sold to United Technologies. United has its own sales organization and will simply fold Carrier's product line into their existing line. Unfortunately, this means my job, along with the jobs of 25 other Sales Representatives, has been eliminated.
As the enclosed resume shows, I have a BA degree in Marketing from Western University and have been working as a Sales Representative in the HVAC industry for two years.
Although I certainly would not expect you to be aware of a specific job opportunity for me, I would appreciate it if you could spend 20 minutes or so with me over lunch. I would value any general thoughts and advice you might have concerning my job hunting campaign. Jerry seemed to feel you might be very helpful in this regard.
I will call you next Monday to see when it might be convenient for us to meet. I would very much appreciate your advice. Thank you.
